Wow. Every weekend we get closer to finishing principal photography. Thanks to our incredible team, I am floored every time I look at the raw footage. But wait. Uh oh, guys. It’s another SRS GLYNIS POST. This weekend we filmed one of my favorite scenes I’ve ever written. I didn’t know it at the time, but I wrote it for our partner Ralph Fontaine. I’m in it, but I’m silent, no dialogue. I can’t really tell you what it’s about, of course. But writing, producing, stunt choreographing, and acting it … [ read more » ]
Have I seriously never posted this? Really? Well, I’m just going to leave this here then. Enjoy. And don’t blame me if your significant other leaves you for obsessively playing it over and over. You’re welcome. [ read more » ]
Ever heard of the “Summer Doldrums”? When the term first came to mind, I wondered if I only knew of it from my mother, who had a thing for either old fashioned sayings, or British-isms. So I looked it up. Yes, it’s really a thing, and the dictionary.com definition was even more descriptive of the feeling that inspired this post than the connotation that I had in mind. Here’s the exact first definition: dol·drums [dohl-druhmz, dol-, dawl-] noun ( used with a plural verb ) 1. a state of inactivity or stagnation, as in business or art: August is a time of doldrums for many enterprises. Wow. If you just want the gist … [ read more » ]
Can you run? Since Ralph dropped the news on our blog (although that lede was certainly buried, because the post was not really about me), I’ve been deciding what I should do. Since I’ve addressed it openly on our podcast — that has about 6 listeners — I feel it deserves an open discussion here. That aired on Cazador Radio today and you can find it streaming on their website. Ralph and I were extremely honest about suicidality on Podcast to the Past. Go listen. I’ve talked a lot about my … [ read more » ]
I realized, when I was working on the new version of this site, that I wanted to have a listing of categories for the posts here. Which was a great idea, but we hadn’t been using categories. So that meant I was going to have to not only come up with the categories that would describe all of our posts, but I was going to have to go back and tag every single post in the archive with the right category. I just now finished. “Gosh, Montoure,” you might … [ read more » ]
Lately, there have been excesses. Some of the good kind, and some of the not so good kind. This got me thinking, how much is too much? I just had a much needed vacation. I spent ten days in a tropical locale not doing much other than sitting around with a book and a drink, with a little bit of snorkeling, biking and kayaking thrown in. It was quite relaxing, but my mind didn’t shut off. Rather, as the days went on, I found my thoughts clearer, and I was … [ read more » ]
Today, I’ve been listening to old U2. I’m talking way back U2, way before Bono turned into a fly who thinks his personality enlightens the world. Many reading this were likely not alive when the album “October” came out in 1981. Many more of you may not like the band that influenced my early days, the way The Beatles or Pink Floyd or The Who influenced those before me. If you were introduced to U2 after about 1992, I don’t blame you for not seeing the soul that was much … [ read more » ]
I read somewhere that if you want more viewers to read your blog posts, you should write “tip” articles. Supposedly, the most read blogs are how-to’s, and advice. Based on the views of some things I’ve written, this actually seems true. Early on in this process of trying to create a webseries, I wrote a couple of articles giving advice to aspiring content creators. Two of my favorites are Focus isn’t just for the camera for Spidvid.com about how important it is to maintain focus on your creative goals even when life … [ read more » ]
So I had a birthday the other day. Kind of a big one. For pretty much all of the past year, people have been asking “what are you doing for your birthday?” Because apparently, when you mark the beginning of a new decade, you’re supposed to have a huge party so all of your friends can tease you about how old you are. I wasn’t super into that idea, so I told everyone that I didn’t want anything big, maybe a weekend trip with my wife (shameless plug-check out … [ read more » ]
Lately, I’ve felt like I’ve been in some sort of tube system…like I’m sliding down a twisting, turning course that I have some control over, but clearly some other power has built it. It’s sort of like the luge in the Olympics, or better yet, maybe kind of like one of those mine tunnel cars like in “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.” The point is, I had to ride a ways before I could see where it would let me out, and to be honest, at times I … [ read more » ]
